Inexpressive Men

INEXPRESSIVE MEN:

For ages, we have been used to viewing men or being told that men are supposed to be dominant or that men always wrong women. However, today it is not about men vs women. In this article, we’ll be solely focusing on upbringings. As we all know everyone’s behavior is different, we also know that we can’t see everyone through the same lens.

Our cultures have a huge impact on how men are shaped. In our Veda's it’s written that men are to be providers of the family. They must earn while the women sit at home. Let’s look at a basic structure, as soon as a son is born in a middle-class Indian family, the son is supposed to be the one who should earn. The family’s entire expectations are put on the kid that he should study well, and do everything that is right for the family.

In this process, most of the due being blinded by these expectations, sometimes the feelings of this son might be disregarded. Indian parents believe in tough love when it comes to their sons. The sons are always taught to keep their feelings within themselves and not say it out loud because feelings make you weaker. The sons of the family are always expected to be strong and brave and stay away from things that might be termed feminine.

If the son cries his feelings are disregarded by telling him that he’s sissy. In our society apparently, our feelings also have a gender.

According to norms a men should be money-minded and focus only on earning since childhood men have learned to suppress their feelings so they don’t know how to express and if some men express it their trolled.

ROCKY AUR RANI MOVIE

Rocky and Rani have portrayed this message so well, where Rocky was always expected to be a certain way and his sister a certain way. Also, Rani’s father is an amazing Kathak dancer but he’s trolled because he’s a man and he’s dancing. In the movie, even if Rocky liked dancing his family was totally against it.

Men have a lot of suppressed emotions because they're not given the freedom to express it in their childhood and when they become adults they don’t know to how to show they care, they feel like they won’t be heard.

Society shapes men to be ‘brave’ or ‘strong’ and not exhibit any feminine traits like showcasing their care. We as a society want them to not be expressive but still want them to show they care. Listening to taunts or listening to the society somewhere men lose what they want to be and accept the ways of the society.
